As the first Nevada State student to graduate with an elementary bilingual education degree, Ana Orozco is breaking barriers. She is completing her student teaching at Ronnow Elementary School, the first dual language school in the Clark County School District.

Ana is a strong Latina who ...is very active within her community and at Nevada State. As someone who constantly employs the critical thinking process, she is an effective advocate for bilingual studies.

First-generation student Fernando is a psychology major with a counseling minor. He has successfully balanced school and a research assistant position while working to support his family. 🦂

Fernando’s combination of inquisitiveness and resourcefulness has helped him persevere through ...many barriers on his journey. Hoping to become a clinical psychologist, he has applied to several doctoral programs and envisions himself working with populations that have traditionally lacked access and representation in the mental health field. 🎓

Jessica Patterson has been leading and problem solving since her first day at Nevada State. Determined to become an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter, she has worked diligently to provide a supportive space to use ASL for new students, led an active Voices Off Hands On (VOHO) club, and has ...volunteered at many deaf events both at school and in the community. 🎉

Jessica leads with confidence and a strong sense of equity and justice, values that will serve her well in her chosen field. She is on track to receive her national certification and use her skills to help others. 💛
